SSC-CHSL stands for Staff selection commission – Combined Higher Secondary Level. SSC- CHSL examination held for recruitment to the posts of Data entry operator and Lower division clerk for 10+2 passed students.
Eligibility Criteria:
Nationality – A candidate must be either: (a) a citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January,1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Educational Qualification – Candidate should have passed class XII or intermediate exam or equivalent from a state or central recognized institute.
Age Limit – Age limit for the posts is 18-27 years as on 01-08-2019 (i.e. Candidates born not before 02-08-1992 and not later than 01-08-2001):
SC/ST – 5 years
OBC – 3 years
PH – 10 years
PH + OBC – 13 years
PH + SC/ST – 15 years
SSC CHSL EXAM PATTERN:
The examination will consist of a Computer Based Examination (Tier-I), Descriptive Paper (Tier-II) and Skill Test/ Typing Test (Tier-III).
The Commission reserves the right to introduce additional stage of examination which would be notified at suitable time, if considered necessary.
In the question papers, wherever necessary, the metric systems of weights and measures only will be used.
Use of mobile phone, calculator and other electronic gadgets and accessories is not permitted. Therefore, these should not, be brought inside the Examination Premises/ Venue.

The Tier-I Examination will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions only. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi for Part-II, III & IV.
There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
Answer Keys, in due course after the Computer Based Examination, will be placed on the website of the Commission (https://ssc.nic.in). Any representation regarding answer keys received within the time limit fixed by the Commission at the time of uploading of the answer keys, will be scrutinized and the decision of the Commission in this regard will be final. No representation regarding Answer keys shall be entertained, afterwards.
Marks scored by candidates in Tier-I will be normalized by using the formula published by the Commission through Notice No: 1-1/2018- P&P-I dated 07-02-2019 and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit and cut-off marks.
Tier-II (Descriptive Paper) :
SSC CHSL Tier-II is a descriptive test that is designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The paper would demand writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent.
The exam is of 60 minutes’ duration and carries 100 marks.
The questions are based on 10th level.
The exam is qualifying in nature.
The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.
Tier-III (Skill Test/ Typing Test):
Skill Test/ Typing Test for the qualified candidates will be conducted on computers provided by the Commission or its authorized agency.
Skill Test/ Typing Test will be conducted in the cities where Regional Offices of the Commission are located or as decided by the Commission.
Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.
SSC CHSL is conducted in three different phases, the syllabus of all the three sections is likely to be different. All candidates must stay updated about the latest changes in SSC CHSL syllabus and exam pattern to prepare thoroughly for SSC CHSL 2019.
