President, Prime Minister and MPs to Take 30 Percent Pay Cut for One Year

The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minster Narendra Modi has approved an ordinance amending the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act,1954 reducing allowances and pensions by 30 percent with effect from April 1, 2020. Union minister Prakash Javadekar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all Union ministers along with over 750 Members of Parliament (MPs) will take a 30 percent salary cut for one year and the amount will be used to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.  

 

MHRD Launches “Samadhan” Challenge to Seek the Ideas to Fight against COVID-19

The Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Human Resource & Development has launched an online challenge ‘Samadhan’ to invite ideas and innovations that can help fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic. The challenge is open for student innovators, researchers, educators and startups to take part in the challenge and submit application by April 14. T he students participating in this challenge will search and develop such measures that can be made available to the government agencies, health services, hospitals and other services for quick solutions to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

 

Telangana Government Set-up India’s First Real-Time COVID-19 Monitoring System App

Public Health and Family Welfare Department of Telangana Government has deployed India’s first real-time COVID-19 monitoring system app which was developed by Vera Smart Healthcare and the same was launched by Telangana Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivas Rao. The objective to deploy this app is to identify patients, undertake live surveillance, track, monitor, and to provide real-time analytics to the Chief Minister and the state health department. The system empowers each health worker to handle more than 1,500 phones every day with a patient to ensure that the symptomatic or confirmed 'positive' individual is quarantined and undergoing treatment.

 

Chhattisgarh Police Launched “Raksha Sarv” App to Track Home Quarantined People

The Chhattisgarh Police have developed the app “Rakhsa Sarv”, with the help of Noida-based startup Mob coder. “Rakhsa Sarv” facilitates them to track the quarantined people through Google Map. The purpose of launching the app is that a large number of people are kept in-home quarantine, and so it is not possible to keep each one under surveillance on a regular basis. A similar mobile app has been developed by the Mohali Police in Punjab named “COVID Control”.

The goal of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra was to provide quality and affordable healthcare to anyone in need. Currently, they are extending essential services by making available quality generic medicines at affordable prices to the common people of the country.

India Partially Lifts Ban from Export of Paracetamol and Hydroxychloroquine Drugs

The Indian Government has lifted a ban on export of paracetamol and Hydroxychloroquine. The both the drugs are used to treat COVID-19. Earlier           India imposed ban on export of the drug on 25th March to ensure enough domestic supplies. US President Donald Trump and Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro have asked India to permit the supply of the drug to cope with Covid-19 cases in their countries. This is a partial lifting of the ban and export of both the drugs will continue to be restricted.      

 

Airtel Payments Bank Partnered with Bharti AXA to Offer Health Insurance Plans for COVID-19

Airtel Payments Bank has joined hands with Bharti AXA General Insurance to offer financial protection for COVID-19 via two different health insurance plans. The plans have been named as “Bharti AXA Group Health Assure Policy” and “Group Hospital Cash”. “Bharti AXA Group Health Assure Policy” offers a lump sum benefit of Rs 25,000 and the other plan “Group Hospital Cash” will offer a daily benefit of starting Rs 500.      

 

4 Years Old Female Malayan Tiger “Nadia” Tests Positive for COVID-19

A 4 year old Malayan tiger “Nadia” at the Bronx Zoo, New York has tested positive for COVID-19. It is the first case of a tiger tested positive for the COVID-19. Nadia, along with six other big cats, is thought to have been infected by an asymptomatic zookeeper. The cats started showing symptoms, including a dry cough, late last month after exposure to the employee, who has not been identified.
